Why Simple Practices Are My Lifeline…

I leaned hard into the idea of simple practices when anything more than that felt out of reach.

In early 2020, as a new parent, in a small apartment, during the height of the pandemic, I needed to find new ways to take care of myself.
Very few of my old habits fit into my new world. Early morning, uninterrupted routines were out of the question when sleep was disrupted multiple times a night for months on end.
In a very real way, I became my own student learning to meet myself for (what felt like) the first time. I quickly learned that the strongest barrier to new habits must determine my priority.
It doesn’t matter how sound the science, how impressive the before and afters, how innovative the programming - if it doesn’t work for you it doesn’t work.
There’s far too much messaging that blames the individual for “failing” when we really should consider the appropriateness of the programming itself. Hopefully we all know by now that none of us has the same 24 hours in a day.
I don’t have all the answers, and I certainly don’t have your answers, but prioritizing simplicity, seasonal rhythms, and tuning out the noise so I can hear my *own* answers more clearly keeps me practicing through the seasons and shifts of life.

What’s one simple practice that connects you to yourself?
What’s one practice your life currently has space for that could add support?
